GRE INTRODUCTION :

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a standardized test that is required to be taken by students seeking admission to graduate schools. The exam has been developed to evaluate the verbal, analytical and mathematical skills of the candidates. GRE is a computer-based test and has a user-friendly design. Individuals applying to graduate schools in order to pursue a Master's of Science (MS) or MBA are required to take the exam.

GRE also has subject tests, apart from the basic GRE exam. These subject tests help to make your application stand out from the rest by highlighting your subject

knowledge and skill-level of a particular subject. Each subject test is intended for those students who have a bachelor's degree in the particular disciplines. The subject tests being offered currently are Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Literature, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology.

GRE exam is of two types

GRE General Test - The General Test takes into account verbal reasoning, quantitative ability, and analytical writing skills. Most universities accept the general test score and usually majority of students opt for this test. It takes place round the year and you can choose your date according to your convenience.

GRE Subject Test – The GRE Subject Test measures the candidate's achievement in a particular subject area. These tests are in the following areas: Biochemistry (Cell and Molecular Biology), Biology, Chemistry, Literature (English), Math, Physics and Psychology. It is conducted on a fixed date for everyone like an entrance exam. This test is required for specialized courses.

GRE EXAM PATTERN :

As per the GRE 2017 test pattern, the total duration of the Computer-based GRE General test is 3 hours 45 minutes.

There are six sections with a 10-minute break following the third section.

According to the GRE Test pattern 2017, the Unscored and the Research section do not count toward the actual GRE 2017 score. Research section may be included in place of the Unscored section. The Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning sections are scored on 130–170 scales.

It can definitely be confusing to contextualize your scores, especially because comparing Verbal scores to Quant scores can feel like comparing apples to oranges. So let's take a look at sectional scores and break it down a little more.

Note: GRE In-Section Scores

Because it's so important, here it is one more time:

Perfect GRE scores are 170 in each section, 340 combined.

Keep in mind that, depending on your program, your scores in one section may be weighted much more strongly in admissions. Potential English Lit MAs don't have to worry about Quant quite as much as potential Engineering PhDs. However, scoring high in both sections is a definite plus.

GRE TEST SECURITY :

Indian student need to take Computer-delivered Tests Only

The following procedures and regulations apply during the entire test session, which begins at sign-in, ends at sign-out and includes breaks.

  • If you requested and received an authorization voucher from ETS, you must take it with you to the test center.

  • Plan to be at the test center up to four and one-half hours.
  • You will be required to write and sign a confidentiality statement at the test center. If you do not complete and sign the statement, you cannot test and your test fees will not be refunded.
  • ETS reserves the right to ensure the security of test content by using electronic detection scanning devices (e.g., hand-held metal detectors/wands). Failure to comply may result in dismissal from the test and forfeiture of your test fees.
  • You may be required to sign the test center log before and after the test session and any time you leave or enter the testing room.
  • You will be asked to remove your watch and to store it during the test administration. Watches are not allowed in the testing room.
  • The test administrator will provide you with scratch paper for use during the test. Scratch paper is not to be used before the test or during breaks. All paper, in its entirety, must be returned to the test center administrator at the end of the testing session. If you are observed using any document or paper other than the scratch paper given to you by test center staff, it will be confiscated. You may not bring your own paper and you may not remove any paper from the testing room at any time, or write on anything other than the paper provided (e.g., computer or workstation).
  • The GRE General Test uses a standard English-language (QWERTY) computer keyboard. It takes its name from the first 6 letters in the third row of the keyboard. If you haven't used this kind of keyboard before, practice on one before test day to become familiar with it.
  • If at any time during the test you have a problem with your computer, or for any reason need the administrator, raise your hand.
  • Testing premises are subject to videotaping.
  • The GRE General Test includes an optional 10-minute break after the third section and one-minute breaks between the remaining sections of the test. These break times cannot be exceeded. You are required to remain in the test center building or in the immediate area. You are not permitted to go outside the test center building unless it is to use the restroom during the test administration, including breaks.
  • If you need to leave your seat at any time other than the break, raise your hand; timing of the section will not stop.

  • You will have access to an on-screen calculator during the Quantitative Reasoning sections. Personal calculators are not permitted in the testing room.
  • At the end of the test, you will be given the option to report or cancel your scores. If you choose to report your scores, those scores will become a part of reportable history and cannot be canceled. Although you have the option to cancel your scores, consider very carefully before doing so because the score reporting choices available with the ScoreSelect® option allow you to report only the scores that you feel reflect your personal best. Your scores will be reported to GRE score recipients only at your request. If you choose to report your scores, you will be able to view your unofficial Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning scores at the test center. Because of the essay scoring process, you will not be able to view your Analytical Writing scores at the time you test.
  • Test centers cannot provide printed copies of unofficial score reports.
  • After you view your scores at the end of the test, you will be asked to designate your score recipients and choose the ScoreSelect option regarding which scores should be reported (Most Recent or All scores). If an institution is not listed, ask the test center administrator for the appropriate form to indicate unlisted institutions. Complete the form and turn it in before you leave the test center. The form will not be accepted after you leave the test center.
  • If you do not select score recipients on the test day, or you would like to send your scores to more than four score recipients, you will need to submit an Additional Score Report request for a fee of US$27 per score recipient. See Ordering Additional Score Reports.
  • On occasion, weather conditions or other circumstances beyond the test administrator or ETS's control may require a delayed start or the rescheduling of your test appointment. In the event that a technical problem at the test center makes it necessary to cancel your test session, or if it is later determined that your scores could not be reported, you will be offered the opportunity to schedule another test appointment free of charge or receive a full refund of the original test fee. In addition, you may seek reimbursement from ETS for reasonable and documented expenses associated with traveling to the test center, even though technical problems are generally not the fault of ETS. To request reimbursement, contact GRE Services with the following information within 30 days of your original appointment: your name, date of birth, mailing

address, daytime telephone number, email address, original test date and registration or CBT appointment number, and a brief description of what occurred at the test center. All reimbursements will be made in U.S. dollars.

GMAT :

GMAT INTRODUCTION :

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a computer-adaptive test which assesses a person's analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal and reading skills in standard written English. This test is taken in preparation for being admitted into a graduate management program, such as MBA and Masters in Finance related courses.

The GMAT exam is a computer adaptive test and not a computer based test, which means that the candidate will get one question at a time and depending on the accuracy of the previous answer, the difficulty level of the next question will be ascertained. The average scores required for universities abroad varies; top tier universities require at least 710, while middle tier universities accept 600.

For Executive MBA, GMAC has recently introduced a new Mini GMAT called Executive Assessment exam. This exam is specially designed for EMBA applicants and is of considerably shorter duration. It is meant to test analytical and logical thinking of the applicant, which is more suited for the Executive MBA course.
